Professional Bio

Dakota is a fluvial geomorphologist specializing in riverine ecosystem assessment and restoration design. He obtained a B.A. in Physical Geography at Sonoma State University, writing an original research thesis documenting geomorphic change in Salmonid habitat on a small, unnamed Northern California stream. His research went on to win third place in the Tom McKnight Student Paper Award at the California Geographical Society.

Dakota then went on to obtain his M.S. degree at the University of Oregon working in the River Research Group, where his research focused on quantifying the geomorphic effects of Tamarisk removal on the Virgin River in Utah using remote sensing techniques. Afterwards, he began working at River Design Group, now part of SWCA Environmental Consultants, in Whitefish, Montana and has worked on dozens of restoration projects throughout the Pacific Northwest and Intermountain West.
