Professional Bio
Mr. Vitez is a Hydropower and Storage expert with close to 30 years of experience in the development, engineering and construction management in North America and internationally.
Early on in Francois’s career, he worked at developing numerous hydropower projects including his own Khudi Hydropower Project in Nepal. Francois later worked as VP Hydro for BPR and SNC-Lavalin where he led the development and construction of hydropower and pumped hydro projects of small and large size.
With technical background in hydraulics and geotechnical, Francois has managed and directed all phases of Energy Generation project developments and rehabilitation from studies, engineering, to construction, commissioning, and operations. With BBA, he leads an integrated team dedicated to supporting the decarbonization of our economy through appropriate and optimal technologies including specifically conventional Hydropower and Pumped Hydro.
Francois is engaged in promoting the multilayered value of hydro and long duration grid connected storage projects in many forums including on the board of Canadian Waterpower Associations. He is also active in many committees at the Energy Storage Association of Canada. Earlier in his career, he was also a Board member of the California Energy Storage Association and a member of the International Hydropower Association. As an expert, he has published several papers and presented at numerous conferences.
Mr. Vitez has a strong entrepreneurial spirit, great communication skills and is passionate about renewable energy. As a team player, he knows how to develop strong relationships with his colleagues, partners and clients.
