In high-stakes moments, like a surprise question from a manager or a request for budget, many capable women freeze or go quiet, not from a lack of expertise but because of what they are telling themselves in that moment. In this interactive workshop, executive coach Becky Farone teaches “thought work,” a practical self-coaching method for noticing those thoughts and choosing ones that lead to clear, confident action. Participants apply it privately to their own real situations through short writing exercises, sharing in the chat only if they choose. Everyone leaves with a simple tool to prepare for their next high-stakes conversation and one small, safe experiment to try. This session opens a two-part series that continues at the Women in Hydro Luncheon at the NWHA Annual Conference in February 2027.
Becky Farone , PCC, grew up with an unconventional Vermont childhood that had her regularly asking, "Why can't a girl do that?" She went on to spend 30 years leading products, programs, and organizational change in tech, often as the only woman in the room, from Microsoft's original Outlook team to leadership roles at Nike, Starbucks, Columbia Sportswear, and Kaiser Permanente, before founding Fireworks Coaching. A Tufts graduate in Art History and American Studies with a master's from Carnegie Mellon, she is an ICF Professional Certified Coach and Adjunct Executive Career Advisor at MIT Sloan School of Management. She recently designed and delivered mindset training for Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), and has spoken for Portland General Electric, North Highland Consulting, Tufts, and Carnegie Mellon.
